Imphal, March 13 2012:
At least 20 shops have been reduced to cinders and properties worth several crores of rupees destroyed in a disastrous fire that broke out at Maram Bazar in Senapati district in the night of March 11 .
There was no power supply on the fateful night.
As such, it is suspected that the devastating fire might have originated from a candle or a kerosene lamp.
The raging fire reduced at least 20 shops to cinders and destroyed properties worth several crores of rupees.
However, the exact monetary value of the properties destroyed has not been calculated yet.
The raging fire was finally put under control with the joint efforts of the local people, fire-tenders of Senapati Fire Station and BRTF personnel posted nearby.
Later, Senapati DC PK Jha visited the devastated site and promised relief material to the victims.
