Imphal, September 11 2011:
Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has raised strong objection to the suggestion made by some dignitaries on hosting this year's Orange Festival in Imphal instead of Tamenglong headquarters.
The festival popularises Tamenglong district to the outside world and it will lose its essence if it is organised in Imphal, said a ZYF press release.
Moreover, shifting of festival venue is against the interest of the people of the district, ZYF said and cautioned that any decision to host it in Imphal would be taken as an effort to leave the event in a jeopardy.
The youth's body also urged the organisers to fulfil the desire of the people to host the event in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh or UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi or Union Ministers.

The celebration of Orange Festival would be more meaningful and significant if its is witnessed by Central leaders, it added.
Orange festival is celebrated every in Tamenglong district for about the last ten years but no change is seen with no incentive or any other benefits being provided to the growers with exception to cash award given to the best orange growers, ZYF pointed out.
It added, the celebration of this important festival without extending necessary support would only discourage the growers and cause lack of interest to further continue the profession especially when their hard toils involving several years is unattended.
The objective of the Government to create sense of earning livelihood by adopting income generating activities so as to substitute Government employment may prove futility without proper guidance through extending necessary support, ZYF observed.
