Now video conferencing facility in Gauhati HC, Imphal Bench

With a view to enhance communication among the judges of the different High Courts of the country, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice Madan B Lokur today inaugurated the official website and Information kiosk of the Imphal Bench of Gauhati High Court which will have the facility of video conferencing.
The inauguration function was graced by Chief Justice of Gauhati HC Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice T Nandakumar of Gauhati HC, Imphal Bench as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Advocate General N Kotishwar also attended the function as Guest of Honour.
The newly inaugurated facility of video conferencing will now connect the Imphal Bench of Gauhati High Court with the Supreme Court of India and other High Courts of the country.
Moreover, a petitioner will now have the advantage of attending their cases from the Imphal Bench even if their cases have been transferred to the Principal Bench, Gauhati High Court.
Now, one can view detail information regarding a case by logging into the newly launched website www.hcmimphal.nic.in.
The newly launched website also contains the history of the court of Manipur, list of Advocate General of the state and profiles of other high courts.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Madan B Lokur said that the newly launched Video Conference and the Information Kiosk will not only give benefits to the lawyers and court officials but also to the petitioners and respondents of the state where communication technology is still lagging behind.
Advocate General Koteshwar said that the facility of Video Conferencing if launched in the district courts and central jail will reduce the inconvenience of carrying prisoners a long way on which the government spends large amount of state fund.
Moreover, it will reduce the communication gap between the Imphal Bench and Principal Bench of Gauhati High Court, he said.
In the keynote address, Justice T Nandakumar said that the facility will enhance discussion and meetings with other judges throughout the country in a big way at the desired time thereby improving court functioning making it more efficient.
He also said that video conference will be set up in all the district courts in the near future and the same will also be made available between jails and courts.
National Informatics Centre (NIC), Manipur, since 2000 has been working at the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench for extending ICT support, he added.
