Sadar Hills demand turns to fast, prayer

Mass fasting prayer service was held today in different locations of Sadar Hills area as a part of the ongoing agitation for upgrading Sadar Hills to a full fledged district.
Under aegis of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee, fasting cum prayer service was held today at different places seeking God's blessing to help in achieving the stated goal of Sadar Hills as a full fledged district.
Participants of the fasting cum prayer service also showed solidarity to the people who have been fasting for the same cause.
The fasting cum prayer service was held at Saikul Bazar, Sapermeina, Keithelmanbi, Kangpokpi, Motbung, Gamgiphai, Leikot and Henbung.
Speaking to media persons at Saikul by the sideline of the fasting cum prayer service, SHDDC Saikul in-charge Tonglet Chongloi reiterated that the 40 years old demand was not about disintegrating Manipur.

The State Government's failure to fulfil such demand has extremely aggrieved the people, he said.
Vahchin Haokip, a woman leader from Sapermeina said that people of Sapermeina area fasted and staged a sit-in-protest in solidarity to the agitators who have been on a fast unto death agitation in pursuit of the decades old demand to grant district status to Sadar Hills.
A large number of people have collected rice and other food items which otherwise should have been consumed as their meal today.
The food items thus collected today would be distributed later to underprivileged section of the society, said Vahchin Haokip.
The present agitation started on August 1 .
