International Literacy Day

As observed elsewhere across the world, the International Literacy Day was also observed here at Rupmahal Theatre under the joint aegis of Directorate of Adult Education, State Literacy Mission Authority Manipur and District Literary Societies of Thoubal, Chandel and Tamenglong.
Volunteer teacher, Leishangthem (O) Bilashini of Thoubal Leishangthem Wangma Taba was given a cash incentive of Rs 20,000 along with a certificate and shawl for her outstanding contribution in the State Literacy Mission.
State Literacy Ambassador Kh Biswamitra was also felicitated on the occasion.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, MLA K Meghachadra said that the Volunteer Teacher Award would be big morale booster for women volunteers working for spreading education in rural areas.
The same programme is also making remarkable strides in hill districts too.
In his presidential speech, Adult Education Director (retired) K Nabachandra claimed that the Adult Education Department has been making commendable progress in spreading literacy among the older sections of the population.
The function which was also attended by Adult Education Additional Director A Saratkumar culminated with presentation of cultural dance items by select child artistes.
