Summary revision of electoral roll extended

The Election Commission of India has extended the date of final publication of Electoral Roll of the ongoing Summary Revision of Electoral Roll with regard to January 1, 2017, as qualifying date to January 12 2017, in connection to the 11 th Manipur Legislative Manipur Assembly Election 2017.This was stated by Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, Vivek Dewangan during a press conference held today at the conference hall of Old Secretariat (South Block), Imphal.
The CEO said the Election Commission is likely to announce Poll Schedule for the General Election to the 11th Manipur Legislative Manipur Assembly shortly.
With the announcement of Election Schedule by the Election Commission, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect and will apply to the whole of Manipur State and will be applicable to all candidates and political parties.
Immediate action will be taken for enforcement of Model Code of Conduct after announcement of General Election including ban on use of official vehicles, prevention of defacement of property (public and private places, halls/auditoriums) and SVEEP & NVD initiatives.
The Election Commission of India has also drawn a list of 'DOs' and 'Don'ts' to be followed by the candidates and political parties after announcement of the election and till the completion of the election process.
To create awareness and to disseminate election news faster, the CEO Manipur has created a WhatsApp group for media organisations in the State.
The State has a total number of 18,98,000 voters till date which will be revised.
Total number of male voters are recorded as 88,7963 and female voters as 91,9880.Missing voters are recorded as 55, 74 as disqualified and 11,783 as expired.
Prior to the press conference, the CEO had a meeting with representatives of 11 political parties regarding the model code of conduct.
The press conference was also attended by Additional CEO RK Dinesh, Joint CEO Modak Hrisheekesh, Officer on Special Duty (Election) K Bono Singh and other officials.
