Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) has applauded the State Govt for its healing touch to the wounded sentiments of the people in the hill districts by moving ahead finally with the decision of holding the long pending election to the Autonomous District Council (ADC).
In an exclusive chat with The Sangai Express, IDF president Ngachonmi Chamroy said that the ADC election in all the five hill districts of Manipur could not be held for the last 20 years thereby depriving the developmental activities in the hill districts.
Understanding the sentiments of the people, like-minded educated people from all the five hill districts came together and formed IDF to regain the rights of the hill people as enshrined in the Constitution of India.
To this effect, IDF has been insisting on early election of ADC, Chamroy said.
Stating that IDF had faced lot of hurdles and had been compelled to launch various agitations in pursuance of this demand, Chamroy also expressed gratitude to all the people who extended full co-operation during the course of these agitations.
Maintaining that IDF acknowledged the state Govt initiative of holding the ADC election by April this year, Chamroy also urged not to procrastinate conduct of the election to the ADC any further.
On the reported move to contest in ADC election by some IDF members, the president clarified that IDF is not a political party but just purely a pressure group working for the welfare of the people at the grass root level.
Boost to footballers: Giving a boost to the budding talented football players in the district a systematic and scientific new club christened Ukhrul Football Club (UFC) has been formed recently.
ADGP Chiphang Peter Ngahanyui, IPS and Commissioner of Works Ramnganing Muivah, IAS have also been elected as the honorary chairmen of the newly founded club.
Talking to this reporter, UFC officials said that the idea was first proposed by Ramnganing for setting up a genuine football club for the welfare of the players.
Apart from the fact that football being the favourite game of Ukhrulites, there are also many budding players in the district who need proper training and guidance.
In the first meeting of the club held TBC, Imphal conference hall on January 24 retired Joint Director YAS, Aleng Shimrah and former captain of Churchill Brothers Somatai Shaiza along with other 12 prominent social workers and top Govt officers were unanimously elected as the Board of Directors of the Club.
