The Judicial Magistrate Ist Class, Imphal today remanded one Deepak Das to judicial custody till November 5.Hundreds of his victims thronged the court to see that justice is delivered.
The accused wanted by the State police in connection with swindling and fraud charges was arrested from Kolkata by Guwahati police.
The State police had been trailing him since March 24, 2005 when a complaint was filed against him in the City P/S.Deepak Das, a native of Tripura, collected about Rs six crores from the State by enticing people join his fake companies like Veerbhumi Plantations (India) Ltd and Denizen Agro Resources & Developers (India) Ltd, both of which operated from the same office at Imphal.
He entrapped thousands of gullible people to deposit money with false promises of "one time benefit or recurring benefit", informed the source.
The source stated that Veerbhumi Plantations set up in 1998-99 disappeared in 2001 along with Deepak.
The swindler reappeared again with Denizen Agro Resources & Developers hood winking people that amounts deposited in the former company would be converted into liabilities of the new company, collecting another crores of rupees.
