The Catholic Medical Centre, Koirengei has inaugural a 6-bedded Neonatal ICU and a 6-bedded ICU facility for paediatric purposes yesterday.
It has all the facilities to cater to the needs of Neonates and paediatrics who require secondary and tertiary care.
The ICU units were inaugurated by the Vatican Ambassador to India Rev Pedro Lopez Quintana, the apostolic Nucio to India (representative of the Pope Benedict XVI, in India) in the presence of Archbishop of Imphal Rev Joseph Mittathany, Co-adjutor Archbishop of Imphal Rev Dominic Lumon and MLA N Biren Singh.
Bishop of Tezpur Rev Robert Kerketta, Bishop of Bongaigaon Rev Thomas Pulloppillil, Bishop of Agartala Rev Lumen Montero and Bishop of Aizawl Rev Stephen Rotlunga were also present at the occasion.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Rev Pedro Lopez exhorted the doctors to promote life and reiterated the role of Church and the Church related institutions to foster, protect and promote life as their so much of abuse and destruction of life carried out in different health institutions around the world.
�Life is God�s precious gift to us and only God can take it back.
However, man�s avarice and selfishness destroy life and work against the God�s design of life�, he said.
In his address, Rev Joseph Mittathany congratulated the director and staff of CMC for taking the led role in providing quality health services to the people of the State especially the poor and the marginalised.
Recalling his past experience as the shepherd of his people, Mittathany said he felt the need for a well-developed hospital to serve the poor people of the State and CMC Hospital was built and established for this purpose.
