A residential camp on girls' education which would go on for five days has begun from today at DM College of Commerce here.
The camp, which is meant specially for such girl students who could not either continue their studies or never had the opportunity of going to school, is being organised by SSA/Girls' Education, Imphal East under the Girls' Education Intervention Programme of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
Around 50 girl students from Irilbung and Sawombung Blocks of Imphal East district are participating in the camp.
One-third of the participants are either those who could not continue their studies due to some compelling reasons or have not been able to go to school at all.
Additional Director of Education (S) S Geeta and ZEO Kh Amuba inaugurated the camp as chief guest and president respectively.
Giving the key note address of the inaugural function, co-ordinator of SSA/ Girls' Education, Imphal East District Ch Ronibala Devi pointed out that education of girls is very important not just in term of imparting the knowledge of how to read and write, but also in bringing out their talents to the fore.
So, during the course of the camp, many resource persons would be imparting knowledge not just on various trades like making of agarbati, bori, pickle but also in matters relate to nutrition and balance diet, learning of Meetei Mayek, environmental studies, domestic violence, labour and girls' problem, self help group (SHG) formation, household management, gender concern society, teaching of English and Mathematics and scientific temper and girls.
