Moderate quake jolts Manipur

Imphal, July 29 2012:
A moderate magnitude earthquake of 6.0 ML rocked the entire Manipur and adjoining North Eastern regions.
According to information received from Seismological Observatory of Manipur University, Canchipur, the earthquake which was triggered at 07 Hr 51 Min 12.90 Sec AM (IST) was felt at 07 Hr 51 Min 44.19 Sec at the Seismological Observatory of Manipur University.
The earthquake wave took about 31 seconds to reach Imphal.
The epicentre of the earthquake was located at 23.065 N/94.561 E in the Ponnyadaung Hill Range of Chin State (Magwe Division) of Myanmar, about 30 km south of Kalewa town and western side of Chindwin River.
The depth of the earthquake is estimated about 70 km.
It is about 210 km from Imphal.
There is no report of any casualty or damage to property in the earthquake.
This was the second time tremor was felt in Manipur and other northern eastern parts during the current month.
In the early hours of July 14 last, an earthquake of moderate intensify shook the Northeastern states.
The Regional Seismological Centre at Shillong recorded the intensify of tremor as 5.5 on the Richter Scale.
