Imphal-Jiri road in worst pathetic condition

Even though the Centre is spending huge amount of fund to complete repairing work along Imphal-Jiri road by 2013, the condition of the highway continues to remain in its worst due to poor progress in work and frequent occurrence of landslides.
Of the entire stretch of the highway, only a 60 km long stretch Imphal to Noney is in a comparatively good condition while from beyond Noney upto Nungba, the road is filled up with pot-holes thereby causing lots of inconveniences to transporters and passengers alike.
However, road stretch from Nungba to Keiphundai is in the most pathetic condition making it even unsuitable for pedestrians, let alone plying of vehicles.
Some portions of the road stretch, which were already blacktopped, too have developed cracks and potholes making it difficult for the vehicles to ply because of loose shingles and rocks.

The condition of the road has become all the more deplorable during the current rainy season with many vehicles got stuck in the potholes and leading to frequent breakdowns.
Goods laden vehicles coming from Jiribam to Imphal are seen being assisted by bulldozers to cross over many sections of the highway where trucks could not pass by themselves.
If ever a truck got stuck in the middle of the road, the whole highway is closed down for other vehicles until the truck is moved away by a bulldozer or two.
In such situation, the drivers and handymen face untold hardships with the prospectsof spending their days and nights in the middle of the road without any facilities.

Md Amuba, driver of a Tata Sumo on passenger service told Hueiyen Lanpao that it has become a tricky part for the drivers and handymen to say anything when passengers inquired about arrival timing at Jiri or Imphal.
"No one has been able to give, even an approximate timing for reaching the destination while travelling along the highway due to ever deteriorating condition of the road.
Before the onset of rainy season, one can reach Jiri from Imphal or vice versa in 10 hours.
