Covid continues to extract toll with 8 more dead to take total to 257

Imphal, November 27 2020:
COVID-19 claimed eight more lives and infected 222 persons in the last 24 hours.
The death toll due to the disease has reached 257 while the total number of positive cases has touched 24,514.The eight victims include four from Imphal West, three from Imphal East and one from Tamenglong district.
However, the victim from Tamenglong was not included in the report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room today which reported seven deaths.
The report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room issued by Additional Director, Health, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said the seven victims include four men aged, 75, 67, 80 and 58 from Imphal West and one 75-year-old man, and two women aged 55 and 32 from Imphal East district.
Two of them died at RIMS while five died at JNIMS Hospital.
On the other hand, the victim from Tamenglong was a 92-year-old man.
He was under home isolation when he died at around 3.30 pm.
Seven members of his family have also tested positive for COVID-19, said sources.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Common Control Room said 222 persons including 218 civilians and 4 security personnel tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
The 218 civilians hail from Imphal West (80), Imphal East (72), Thoubal (32), Bishnupur (11), Churachandpur (11), Tamenglong (5), Ukhrul (4), Kakching (2) and Noney (1).All are locals without significant travel history.
They are shifted to COVID-19 care centres and all necessary medical precautionary and containment measures are in place, said the report.
In the last 24 hours, 208 persons have been discharged after recovery from COVID-19 .
While 160 of them recovered under home isolation, the remaining have been discharged from COVID-19 Care Centres opened at Thoubal (11), RIMS (10), CAPF (6), LKK (9), Lamding (6), JNIMS (2), Sadbhavna (1), PR Kakching (1) and JNV Chandel (1) .
The total and the breakup figure of those discharged as given by the COVID-19 Common Control Room does not match.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the State has reached 24,514 including 21,438 civilians and 3,076 security personnel.
The cumulative number of recovered cases is 21,006 including 18,240 civilians and 2,766 security personnel.
The number of active cases has reached 3,252 including 2,946 civilians and 306 security personnel.
The recovery rate stands at 85.68 percent.
Meanwhile, a late report from sources at JNIMS said 298 samples were tested at the hospital and 57 were found positive for COVID-19 .
