Rape accused remanded to judicial custody

Imphal, November 27 2020:
After the completion of 5 days police custody remand, a rape accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Imphal West yesterday.
Angry locals and family members of the victim tried to attack Chandam Rabichandra (23) of Uyumpok Awang Leikai, who is alleged to have committed sexual assault and attempted to murder a woman from Imphal East, when he was about to be produced before the Court but the situation was brought under control by a large number of Imphal.

During the proceeding, the IO of the case through APP submitted that during the police custody interrogation, the accused Rabichandra @ Tbomcha have admitted that he had called out the victim women and took her to paddy field opposite to Ereima at Uyumpok and sexually assaulted her on the pretext of elopement.
Thereafter, the accused threatened the victim with a pistol and took her to Eroilotpi before sexually assaulting her near the roadside, the IO continued.
During interrogation, the accused further revealed that the victim argued with him for taking her either to his home or his friend's house and he strangled her with his belt before hitting twice with a stick on the head and right hand lower arms, the IO submitted.
The accused also admitted that he took the victim till Yumnam Patlou near the power house before abandoning her there, the IO continued.
The IO further submitted that the arms used by the accused are untraceable and prayed for remanding the accused for more days for smooth investigation of the case.
The Court after hearing the submission of the IO granted judicial remand of the accused till December 9 .
