July 23, 2009 case : 2 CBI officers arrive

Imphal, February 21 2017: Two officers of CBI arrived here today in connection with the July 23, 2009 BT Road firing incident.

The CBI officers who arrived here today included Vijay Kumar Shukla, Additional SP CBI/ SC II New Delhi who had earlier summoned 2nd IRB CO Dr Ak Jhalajit during his previous stay at Imphal from February 14 to 16 and one of his superior officers, CBI SP NK Shukla, informed a source.

The accused against whom CBI had earlier filed a charge sheet included Yumnam Munal, the then OC City Police Station, Hijam Devendra, the then Inspector of police commando bazar unit Imphal West, Thounaojam Herojit, Head Constable commando Imphal West, Ngangom Toyaima, Rifleman 8th MR, Waheng- bam Bijoy Commando Constable Imphal West, Thokchom Jagat, Havildar 8th MR, Md Imran Khan, Rifleman 5th IRB, Oinam Keshor, Head Constable commando Commando Constable Imphal West, Thokchom Jagat, Havildar 8th MR, Md Imran Khan, Rifleman 5th IRB, Oinam Keshor, Head Constable commando Imphal West and Makan Kanchung Chote, Constable Imphal West commando.

They might be summoned in a day or two by the CBI officers at CBI Imphal Branch from tomorrow onward so as to record their statements.

It may be mentioned that the Additional SP CBI/ SC II New Delhi filed an application before the Session Court, Imphal West on behalf of the CBI on February 14 for further investigation into the killing of Chungkham Sanjit Singh.

After getting the order for fresh investigation of the 23 July 2009, BT Road incident, CBI summoned the then Additional SP Dr Ak Jhalajit at CBI Imphal Branch, Lamphelpat and after taking his statements, Ak Jhalajit was summoned to CGO complex New Delhi on February 17 .

It may also be mentioned that Dr Ak Jhalajit had filed an anticipatory bail petition before the Session Court, Imphal West on February 16 and the Court passed an interim bail till the consideration of the matter.
