A team of Election Commission of India led by Chief Election Commissioner, Nasim Zaidi has begun reviewing the election preparations in Manipur today.
The full team of the ECI has arrived with the aim of enabling a smooth and problem free election which is scheduled on March 4 and 8 .
According to a source, the ECI team met political parties of the State at Hotel Classic today and collected their feedback.
The political parties also appreciated the various steps and procedures taken up by the ECI regarding the coming election and also urged the ECI team to take up steps and to notify the presiding officers and security personnel to curb the practice of proxy voting.
The source pointed out that the team also met narcotics and excise authorities and collected their work reports.
They also held a separate meeting with the DCs and SPs who will play a big role in the coming election and reviewed their reports regarding the election preparations.
The ECI team will also meet the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and the DGP, it added.
168 candidates will contest the first phase of the election on March 4 and 98 candidates will contest the second phase of the election on March 8 .
