Green Eco village tag on Chingjaroi

With an objective to prevent environmental degradation and preserve the rich biodiversity, Chingjaroi CV village under Chingai Block, Ukhrul district has been declared Green Eco village.
For the first time in Ukhrul, the village has observed Green Day on May 17.Trees were also planted in the village's Church premises.
Headman AS Raizar led the tree plantation programme.
Jubilate Kazingmei, Project Manager, VVD lauded the initiative of Chingjaroi village as a 'landmark achievement' towards environment protection and preservation of biodiversity.
He said that the environment in the district is fast depleting due to the practice of jhum cultivation, forest fire, wanton felling of timber and use of chemical fertilizers.
Jubilate stressed the need to implement forest regeneration and economic enhancement policies.
Social entrepreneur Aran Chihui also attended the programme.
Chingjaroi CV is situated at the foot of Chingjui Matha hill.
The village has experienced changes in climate during the past few days.
The village has constituted an Eco-Village Committee for environmental protection and preservation.
As such, the committee has banned unnecessary felling of forest trees, traditional hunting of wild animals and uncontrolled use of chemicals for agriculture purpose and fishing.
The village is setting a target to become the cleanest village of Ukhrul district by 2016, according to Soya, convener of EVC.
