Imphal, September 11 2011:
With the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections fast approaching, aspiring candidates in some Assembly constituencies have been lobbying hard for Congress tickets.
However, the lobbying for Congress tickets is, so far, confined to the valley districts.
These aspiring candidates have been mobilising Congress workers and supporters of their respective constituencies to give weight to their claims for Congress tickets.
As an offshoot of such hectic mobilisation of supporters by aspiring candidates, many constituencies are witnessing a situation where Block Congress Committee members can be divided into different rival camps.
Such a situation has the potential to confound voters regarding whom they should support.
One such incident of mobilising supporters by aspiring candidates was witnessed in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Constituency today.
Naoriya Pakhanglakpa BCC organised a meeting for unit members of three polling stations at Langthabal Mantrikhong Ima Ireima Community Hall today.
The meeting was attended by Naoriya Pakhanglakpa BCC vice-president S Kulachandra, president S Chaoba, Imphal West DCC vice-president N Nimaichand and Ch Priyokumar who is preparing to fight the elections under Congress ticket.
Speakers addressing the gathering said that Ch Priyokumar would get Congress ticket to fight the Assembly elections from Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC.
On the other hand, a public meeting held today at Ningombam under the aegis of Block Mahila Congress Committee decided to put up Imphal West district Adhyaksha S Subashchandra as Congress candidate for Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The meeting was attended by Block Mahila Congress Committee president Manisang, MPCC (Administration) secretary S Jiten, public grievance cell vice-president Naba Sharma and Zilla Parishad Member S Chaoba.
Those who addressed the meeting said that it would be impossible to give party ticket to those individuals who deserted Congress only to rejoin at the time of elections .
