Imphal, January 10 2016:
Along with
enhancing bulk LPG transportation
to the State to the
maximum level, LPG bottling at
Sekmai Bottling Plant has also
been optimized since sometime
back, informed an IOC official.
Bottling activities are carried
out every alternate day
including Sundays.
In the meantime, IOC officials
have been inspecting the
bottling plant and its functions
every now and then.
Even as IOC has taken up
all possible measures to improve
LPG refill distribution
in the State, there are many
areas where the IOC cannot
do anything.
It is said that
IOC cannot do anything in
matters related to the law and
order.
The biggest obstacles to
bulk transportation of LPG
into the State are bandhs,
blockades and general strikes
which are all related with law
and order.
IOC cannot handle these
problems, said the official.
LPG transportation to the
State was suspended when
the UNC called a 48 hours
bandh in April last year.
LPG
transportation was again suspended
for 13 days in May
on account of KSO's economic
blockade, UNC's
bandh, Mao Council's bandh,
unavailability of 'packed drivers'
and strike by AOD staff.
There was nine days shortage
in bulk LPG storage on
account of similar disturbances
in the month of June.
LPG bulk transportation
was suspended for 15 days in July on account of the pro-ILPS movement.
Again,
LPG convoys were halted for 11 days in August as Imphal-
Dimapur highway was cut off by landslides while Imphal-Jiribam
highway was rendered inaccessible due to break down of Barak
bridge.
No LPG was brought to the State for 16 days in September
as both Imphal-Diampur highway and Imphal-Jiribam highway
remained cut off for several days.
Again economic blockades disrupted transportation of bulk
LPG for six days in October and three days in November.
