PMGSY road to connect border villages

The far-flung rural villages of eastern border area of Ukhrul district would be soon be interconnected with the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road, reports our correspondent.
It may be mentioned that these villages are situated at high altitudes with rough terrain and dense forest.
The ongoing PMGSY road construction work is aiming to provide the eastern border villages a better road connectivity which would benefit the villages to a great extent.
The Sambu Area Villages' Association which comprises of 36 Tangkhul villages has warned the contractors concerned to follow the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and PMGSY guidelines while implementing the work.
A JAC was also constituted in connection with the ongoing PMGSY road construction work by the association in order to check and monitor the work.
The JAC has urged the contractors concerned to co-operate with the villages and complete the construction work with due emphasis on its qualitative aspect.
JAC member Ningreishang also expressed dissatisfaction over the ongoing Kamjong-Chatric Khullen road construction work.
He said that the constructed road lacks proper drainage system, culverts and breast walls.
A joint meeting was also held at Chatric Khullen on January 28 in this regard.
During the meeting, the villagers have raised an issue of road alignment which the contractors has executed without consulting the villagers despite their demand to follow the alignment laid down in the DPR.
Construction of a bailey bridge which is supposed to begin in 2015 is yet to be initiated.
The villagers are relying on a makeshift hanging bridge to commute.
They have aso urged the supervising officer AE Maipak to initiated the construction work and complete before the onset of monsoon.
