Ukhrul, January 30 2016 :
The far-flung rural villages of eastern border area of Ukhrul dis-
trict would be soon be interconnected with the Pradhan Mantri
Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road, reports our correspond-
ent.
It may be mentioned that these villages are situated at
high altitudes with rough terrain and dense forest.
The
ongoing PMGSY road construction work is aiming to pro-
vide the eastern border villages a better road connectivity
which would benefit the villages to a great extent.
The Sambu Area Villages' Association which comprises
of 36 Tangkhul villages has warned the contractors con-
cerned to follow the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and
PMGSY guidelines while implementing the work.
A JAC was also constituted in connection with the on-
going PMGSY road construction work by the association in
order to check and monitor the work.
The JAC has urged the contractors concerned to co-
operate with the villages and complete the construction work
with due emphasis on its qualitative aspect.
JAC member Ningreishang also expressed dissatisfaction
over the ongoing Kamjong-Chatric Khullen road construc-
tion work.
He said that the constructed road lacks proper
drainage system, culverts and breast walls.
A joint meeting was also held at Chatric Khullen on
January 28 in this regard.
During the meeting, the villagers
have raised an issue of road alignment which the contractors
has executed without consulting the villagers despite their
demand to follow the alignment laid down in the DPR.
Construction of a bailey bridge which is supposed to
begin in 2015 is yet to be initiated.
The villagers are relying
on a makeshift hanging bridge to commute.
They have aso urged the supervising officer AE Maipak
to initiated the construction work and complete before the
onset of monsoon.
