Imphal, October 12, 2013:
With the Additional Chief Engineer of Power Department as its head, a task force has been set up to monitor the ongoing work for putting up a 400 KV transmission line from Silchar to Imphal via Jiribam in order to ensure that the same work is completed within the stipulated time.
The task force was set up after minute discussion at the level of the Chief Minister keeping in view that the existing transmission lines are incapable of drawing full volume of power allocated to the State from Central sponsored and joint venture power plants.
Whereas Power Department's Additional Chief Engineer Ng Sarat is the chairman of the task force, Tamenglong DC, Tamenglong SP and SDOs in whose jurisdictions the transmission line would pass through have been nominated as members of the task force.
The transmission line requires 196 towers between Silchar and Jiribam, and Power Grid Corporation has already erected 140 towers.
Construction of foundation for 170 towers have also been completed, informed an official source.
For Jiribam-Imphal section, two teams have been working to put up the transmission; one starting from Jiribam and the other starting from Imphal.
Out of 165 towers which should be erected by the second team starting from Imphal, foundations for 99 towers have been constructed and 50 towers have been erected.
But stringing of wire has not achieved much progress.
The team starting from the direction of Jiribam has constructed foundation of 52 towers and erected 21 towers out of the total of 110 towers the team should erect.
Stringing of wire has been completed for just a half kilometre out of 40 Kms the team should cover.
The task force would collect upto date reports from Power Grid Corporation on weekly basis and they would monitor the ongoing every month, added the official.
