Man swept away, body yet to be found

Ukhrul, July 05 2017:
With the heavy rain in the last few days and rivers running in spate as a result, a 40 year old man identified as AS Wungreithot S/o (L) Alungleng of Tashar village was swept away by Lamlang river yesterday at around 11.30 am while he was trying to cross the river to reach his paddy field at Ngaham Chihui area .
According to the villagers, people who were fishing on the river side first saw him trying to cross the river but was swept away by the strong water current .
Their efforts to save him proved futile and in the search that followed they found his bag carried down stream some metres away .
The body is still traceless.
About 400 youths from the neighbouring villages of Tashar, T Chanhong, Lamlang, TM Kasom, Shangkai and Ramva have been searching for the body since yesterday .

Thoubal multipurpose dam is constructed at river Lamlang .
According to reports culled from the site, the search was carried out from Lamlang area to Chadong village area since yesterday, but the body is yet to retrieved .
Reportedly no police have arrived at the site so far .
Wungreithot is survived by his wife AS Rachel and two young sons.
Till the time of filing this report, his body is yet to be recovered .
In another separate incident at Chingjaroi Khullen village, Ukhrul a 15 year boy K Vetam Gilbert slipped into Avakathe river, while making a makeshift dam .
According to villagers, large chunks of mud fell from above all of a sudden knocking him into the river .
Later the boy was found lying unconscious at a shallow part of the river from where he was rescued .
The boy suffered severe injuries and has been rushed to Imphal for treatment.
According to Chingjaroi Khullen villagers, paddy fields of more than 120 farmers have been completely destroyed in seven different areas.
