Imphal, July 05 2017:
Following the country-wide launching of Goods and Services Tax (GST), GST has been applied on transportation of goods to the State .
Even though there is an instruction of the Government of India to continue with the VAT system for sometime as formulation of GST rules has not been completed, the State has started levying GST on goods transported to the State .
Being transition period and pending formulation of GST rules, Taxation officials have been facing certain inconveniences in levying GST, sources informed .
GST has no provision for taxation check-post or taxation outpost.
As such, all taxation check-posts and outposts have been shut down in some States .
Even though the Government of India has not yet issued any concrete order to shut down taxation check-posts and outposts, New Delhi has enquired the State Government whether there are any taxation check-post in the State, and if yes how many such check-posts have been functioning well .
Earlier, during a meeting on GST, representatives of different States laid down that removal of taxation check-posts would entail loss of revenue to Governments .
Nonetheless, the Centre would decide whether all the taxation check-posts and outposts would be abolished or not, added the sources.
