Imphal, August 04 2014:
At least four individuals suspected to be involved in the gruesome murder of Lourembam Ranjita have been apprehended by police.
The arrested suspects include Laishram Ibomcha of Yairipok Khoirom and Atingam Tangkhul of Komlaching, informed a source.
Ibomcha is the owner of the paddy field where Ranjita was found dead while Atingam worked as caretaker of a fish farm belonging to Ibomcha.
However, all the four accused were taken to Thoubal district police headquarters after a large number of people, who were demanding arrest of all the culprits involved in the murder, today made an abortive attempt to storm Yairipok police station.
However, police have not been divulging any information about the new developments.

Thongram (N) Lourembam (O) Ranjita was found murdered and abandoned at Kakmayai Mamang paddy fields at around 8.20 pm of August 2 .
On the other hand, Thongram Sanatomba, elder brother of Ranjita, said that it looked like her sister was gang raped before she was hacked or stabbed to death by some criminals.
Ranjita and her husband Loken went to work at Ibomcha's paddy field every day.
But on the fateful day, Ranjita went alone.
"My sister fell in the hands of the criminals when my brother-in-law let her go alone.
The criminals were looking for such an opportunity since many days back", Sanatomba said.
Even as Ranjita was found wrapped herself with a piece of cloth on the waist, her sarong (phanek) was found pulled up.
Ranjita was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at the paddy having water with an intention to destroy evidence.
When people of the neighbourhood went searching of Ranjita on Saturday night, Ibomcha overlooked the spot where the corpse was later discovered and pretended to be searching for Ranjit by flashing a torch-light.
Ranjita's corpse was found there at the insistence of a youth to scan the area once more.
Ibomcha's fish farm care-taker Atingam claimed that he was suffering from fever but he was found all drenched that night.
He again claimed that he was suffering from malaria.
But when he was asked why he was drinking liquor if he was suffering from malaria, Atingam could not give any reply, Sanatomba said.
He also expressed strong disapproval of the way police have been investigating the murder case.
