The annual general conference of Poumai womenfolk under the 'women empowerment' theme has started at Laii village of Senapati district since September 19 .
Inaugural programme of the annual gathering which will conclude tomorrow was held with ICHAM president N Rajendra as the chief guest with president of Poumai Naga Hoho Dr Hisan and Poumai Students' Union president Dani gracing the occasion as presidium members.
In his brief remark at the opening ceremony, Rajendra cautioned that there are a number of individuals who have been pillaging public money under the guise of working for welfare/benefit of the society.
Calling upon the people to stick together so as to thwart nefarious intentions of such elements, he also stressed on preserving customs and traditions of ethnic communities without which survival of indigenous tribes would be an arduous task in the future.
The chief guest, on behalf of the Tribal Development Minister, also conveyed to the gathering that the suspension bridge which is under construction and would connect Laii village will be inaugurated next month.
The bridge is being constructed at an estimate cost of Rs 25 lakh under the Tribal Development Department.
Later in the day, Rajendra along with social worker Loli Adani jointly laid the foundation stone for construction of the Rs 4.14 lakh Chingmai Khunou Market shed.
