Imphal, July 06:
The president of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) Ksh Narayan has appealed to all concerned not to look at the office bearers of the student body as engineers of PWD and the A-block of the University as the PWD.
Speaking at a reception function hosted by Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) in honour of the newly elected president and councillors of MUSU for the term 2008 at RDS School, Palace Compound here today, Narayan said it is really unfortunate that some people presume that student body of the highest seat of learning in the State and its president can issue contract works and consider the A-Block of the University as PWD.
No such notion should have on the present MUSU, he added.
Former president of MUSU as well as of MSF Dr Gourachandra, who also spoke at the occasion, observed that student bodies in the State should press fpr reasonable demands.
He pointed out that along with conversion of Manipur University as a Central University various new buildings have been constructed and there has been no lack of developmental fund.
However, Dept of learning which are suitable to the soil of Manipur are yet to be set up.
The University has been paying attention to conventional subjects only and setting up Depts related to sports and art and culture which are more appropriate to the context of Manipur have not been taken considered, he contended.
He exhorted MUSU to play a major role in addressing these issues and exert pressures on the authorities concerned for setting up such departments so as to dissuade students from going outside the State to study and encourage other who are already studying outside to come back.
Side by side, MUSU should also be aware of the problems related to lack of adequate teachers, study materials in the library and other infrastructuraln requirements and exert pressures on the authorities for doing the needful, he added.
MSF advisor Nando Luwang said that the students of the University should not confine their learning to the prescribed syllabus but understand the social trends as well.
Maintaining that there is nothing to be proud of in , possessing the certificates issued by the Manipur University, Nando said it is very unfortunate for the State that these days news report arc being published on the misdeeds committed by the professors of the University so frequently.
The students are also to be blamed equally for such misdeeds, Mando added ln such a situation, MUSU, should not remain contended in carrying out its annual activities but participate in various important issues related to the development of the University from time to time, Nando noted.
MSF president in-charge Md Adabuddin and advisor Dhaneshore also spoke, at the occassion.
