AR foils areca nut smuggling in Kamjong

Imphal, August 26 2023:
Based on reliable inputs about movement of contraband items along In-do-Myanmar border, a team of Assam Rifles launched an operation and intercepted 209 bags of suspected Areca Nuts (Supari) worth approximate Rs 2.50 crore in the international market being illegally smuggled in three Myanmarese trucks in Sang-ka Lok Nala track area, near BP-99 through international border towards Indian side.
In a similar operation, a team of Assam Rifles intercepted three another Myanmarese trucks carrying 190 bags of Areca Nuts worth around Rs 2.34 crore in Sangka Lok Nala track area near BP-98.The AR team also apprehended three individuals namely Wynwyn, Thuntun and Aungshun.
The seized bags of Areca Nuts along with three Myanmarese and six trucks were handed over to forest department official of Kamjong district for further legal proceedings, informed a statement of PRO IGAR (S) .
