Foundation bats for switching to organic farming

Pointing out the need to switch to organic farming as products of such agricultural practice are generally healthy and nutritious, apart from being ecologically and economically viable, Green Foundation Manipur has encouraged all concerned to adopt this farming method and improve economy of the food producers.
A day-long training programme for farmers on the topic "National program on Organic production and Internal Control Systems Management" was organised jointly by Green Foundation Manipur and Kha Nongchup Pukei Langei Organic Producer Company under the aegis of the Ministry of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MoVCD NER) Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmer Welfare at Khurkhul Awang Leikai community hall on Saturday.
Speaking at the discourse, Green Foundation Manipur executive director Urikhinbam Premjit informed that organic farming can produce products which are good to health, does not require huge investment and also can improve economy of the farmer community.
While appealing to all to desist from use of chemicals in agricultural works, Premjit said that we need to increase our production and export the same for development of the local economy.
Under organic farming, there is no question of decline in production.
If at all there is any report of decrease under organic farming, the Foundation will bear all the losses, he assured.
The executive director further stated that around 37,500 farmers are successfully carrying out organic farming in the state with the Foundation providing support to around 6600 farmers.
Farmers can avail organic manures and other agriculture related materials at subsidised rate from the Foundation, he said.
Kha Nongchup Pukei Langei chairman Puyam Chourjit, Group leader Phuritsabam Ibetombi, Reudra Oli and Usham Jugeshwar were the presidium members of the training programme which was attended by around 50 farmers.
Meanwhile, a day-long plant health camp was organised jointly by MoVCD NER, Department of Agriculture, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Thoubal and Thoubal District Loumigi Thouna Farmer Producer Co Ltd at Ingourok community hall in Heirok under Thoubal district on Saturday.
