Imphal, August 26 2023:
A month-long workshop cum production in connection with the play "Chothe Thamai Pakhangba" brought out by Monalisha Art & Cultural Association (MAACA) under CM Artistsingi Tengbang (CMAT) commenced at Ningomthong Kitna Panung MAACA rehearsal hall on Saturday.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Art and Culture deputy director G Dharmadas Sharma pointed out that without artistes, culture cannot exist, and as such there is the need to promote artistes in the state.
Though artistes of Manipur do not earn much, we have been able to preserve culture inherited from our forefathers as there are still many committed artistes amid us, he opined.
Dharmadas, however, lamented that recent trend of drifting away from the held of art among the young artistes as they consider that the financial benefit they receive through art is incompatible compared to time and effort they have to spare and make.
Nevertheless, financial footfall is inevitable if one is fully dedicated and becomes a dedicated artiste.
What is important is our interest in the held.
If one enters this held with a business motive, one can never become an artiste in the real sense of the term, he elaborated.
Presided over by Rup-mahal Theatre director L Brajamohon, the function was also attended by Media Theatre director KB Sharma as guest of honour.
