Imphal, August 14 2015 :
State Government and Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) will now jointly draft the new ILPS Bill acceptable to all and table it on the floor of the State Assembly soon and get it passed.
The decision came after a marathon meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat conference hall.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi started at 3 pm and ended at 9 pm.
The CLP meeting seriously dwelt on the weeks-long intensified public protest over the demand for implementation of ILPS, Government spokesperson and Education Minister M Okendro informed.
The ILPS Bill recently submitted to the Government by the five-member Drafting Committee headed by Law & Legislative Affairs Minister Th Debendra was put before the CLP members and they held a detailed discussion on it.
The meeting decided that the Bill will be presented in the State Assembly soon and get it passed given that representatives of JCILPS and Government together prepare the proposed bill to make it acceptable to the people as well as the Indian Constitution, Okendro said.
However, the meeting did not give a definite timeline.
The CLP, on the other hand, outwardly condemned the peace accord, signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) on August 3, for not consulting the Chief Minister.
The meeting unanimously decided that no geo-political, socio-cultural and economic boundary of Manipur will be compromised in any condition for the sake of the peace accord and that this agreement must be confined in the State of Nagaland only, Okendro said.
