Imphal, August 04 2017:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) today said that it is most unfortunate that the 60 Members of the State Assembly turned a deaf ear to the demands for an Assembly resolution to protect indigenous people, removal of non-locals from electoral roll and constitution of an Assembly Committee for the same .
In a statement, KSA however said that it is the first collective victory of the people as the Chief Minister made an assurance on the floor of the Assembly that the Centre will be pursued regarding reservation of all Assembly seats for indigenous people and his assurance to take up necessary works for removal of non-locals who are included unreasonably from the electoral roll in consultation with officials concerned .
Since the demand it spearheaded is a matter of life and destruction of indigenous people, KSA reiterated that it would not give up its agitation until the demands are met .
It also resolved to organise discussion/meeting at different places in collaboration with clubs, Meira Paibis apart from holding such meetings with school, college and university students in order to build up a mass movement, the statement said .
Meanwhile, representatives of KSA personally met Governor of Manipur today.
The Governor reportedly said that the demand to reserve all ACs of the State to the indigenous people raised by the students' body is genuine and that she would forward the demand to the Government of India .
The Governor also reportedly assured the KSA delegates that she would give instruction to the CM to stop enrolling outsiders in the electoral roll, the statement said .
The KSA further said that if CM N Biren is serious to protect the indigenous people, then he should immediately initiate process to remove non-locals from the electoral roll .
It further appealed to all people to extend support to the cause it champions.
