Imphal, July 01, 2012:
The incumbent Congress Government cannot blame the people for the power crisis gripping the State and inability to collect power bills not more than Rs two crores in a month while all the administrative flaws, discrepancies and irregularities prevailing in Power Depart-ment are not rectified.
This was stated by CPI State secretary Dr M Nara while speaking at the launching function of a month-long awareness programme about failure of the State Government to provide regular power and potable water, publication of MBBS/BDS entrance merit list twice, price hike etc.
The awareness programme would be organised all over India during the month of July, said Dr Nara.
Speaking at the function held at Rupmahal Theatre, Dr Nara asserted that the people cannot be blamed for the inability to collect power bills not more than Rs two crores while the Government is spending Rs 15 crores every month in purchasing power.
The State Government should first work to correct all the flaws and discrepancies which are crippling Power Department.
The Government is still unable to provide real potable water to the public.
The so called tap water being provided to the people is only filtered water and it is not treated properly to be called potable water, Dr Nara asserted.
Accusing the Government of harassing IMC employees by not giving their salaries for months, Dr Nara said that the State Government has not taken up a single step even as large tracts of paddy fields remain uncultivable due to lack of water.
Funds sanctioned for welfare of farmers never reached them.
Saying that Manipur is the only place where results of the medical entrance examination was declared twice, Dr Nara remarked that was manifestation of the State Government's depravity.
Whereas the Government has been preaching against bandhs, it was only inviting bandhs from the aggrieved mass through its faulty policies and programmes.
He also asserted that the poorer sections of the State are being denied all the benefits of PDS.
The general policy of the Government of India is such that it supports the rich and represses the downtrodden, he added.
