Imphal, September 20 2014 :
With a view to accelerate electrification of remote villages and ease tax collection, single point metering system has been introduced in 268 villages located within four blocks of Chandel district.
Single point metering system is also followed in Nagaland too.
The Manipur State Power Distribution Company has introduced the system in 53 villages of Chandel block, 46 villages in Machi block, 52 villages in Tengnoupal block and 117 villages in Chakpikarong block.
Under the single point metering system, a single meter is installed at the electric transformer which supplies power to a village, informed an official source.
The system was introduced under an understanding between the company and village authorities.
As per the understanding, the company would deliver power bills to the village chiefs every month.
In return, the village chiefs should pay power bills on monthly basis.
The new system eases both bill delivery as well as tax collection.
Meanwhile, the company has written to the Deputy Commissioners of the hill districts to identify villages where the single point metering system can be introduced.
