Imphal, May 19 2021:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged State Government to speed up vaccination and increase Covid tests per day to control the spread of the disease.
In a statement, AMSU said it is imperative that while facing the second, the Government must anticipate a possible 3rd wave of the pandemic and begin necessary preparations.
The State Government must increase manpower in the healthcare sector and instal more oxygen plants to augment oxygen production and its stock.
All the hospitals and healthcare centres must be well equipped with all medical facilities needed to treat Covid patients, it said.
Cases of infections and deaths due to COVID-19 have spiked in the past few weeks and as such the Government should do the needful to provide best treatment to the patients.
A Government committee which was formed to look into the rising number of deaths due to Covid should also study the causes of the casualties pro-actively and efficiently, AMSU said.
It may be noted here that the State reported 23 deaths due to COVID-19 today.
There were 20 and as many as 624 new infections yesterday.
As a result of the spike in the number of Covid positive cases, there is a need for increasing beds in hospitals and all medical equipment needed for treatment.
While Covid healthcare workers should provide the best treatment to patients, the public should strictly follow COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviours and curbs imposed by the Government.
People should help the State face Covid successfully by staying at homes and avoiding infection, said AMSU.
On the other hand, the restrictions imposed due to Covid second wave have shut people's means to generate income and earn livelihood.
The Government should ensure that the people are getting the relief packages.
Elected members of the locals and MLAs concerned should monitor the distribution of rations/essential items to people in their areas.
AMSU's volunteers are ready to assist the Government and its agencies in handling the Covid crisis, it said.
The student body also appreciated and thanked healthcare workers, police and numerous social workers, who are helping the needy amid the second wave of COVID-19 .
