Governor, others extend Independence Day greetings

Manipur Governor Dr Syed Ahmed has extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Independence Day 2015.A press release signed by the Governor said that it was on this day in 1947 that the country shook off the yoke of the colonial rule and became independent to decide its own destiny.
This freedom, however, did not come to the people of the country easily but after years of struggle and supreme sacrifices made by our countrymen, the freedom fighters, said the release.
While admitting that major progresses has been made in the socio-economic sectors towards an equitable development throughout the country, the release also said that science and technology has also been no less a thrust area where India has come to be considered as a technologically advanced country.
Urging all to work as one in the true spirit of a democratic country to bring about emotional integration and equal development, the release also appealed to all to remember those brave souls who secured today's freedom and contribute selflessly for the well being of the citizens of a free India.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker, Th Lokeshwar Singh also greeted the people on the occasion of Independence Day.
A release by the Speaker said that Mahatama Gandhi and other leaders of India fought against the might of the British which led to the independence of the nation after many years.
While urging all not to forget those martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation, the Speaker appealed all to learn from the Indian Independence Movement and build up unity to face and protect the territorial integrity of the nation.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, in a release, has informed that the MPCC will observe the 68th Independence Day on Saturday at Congress Bhawan, BT Road at 8 am.
State MPs of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Congress MLAs, Congress leaders, CLP Members, MPCC office bearers, frontal/cells, councilors, ADC members, presidents of DCC and BCC and members of Congress will be attending the observation where Chief M O Ibobi will be the Chief Guest.
