In connection with its ban on tobacco products and Mithamana, the proscribed RPF today pulled up a 28-year old young man who was trying to smuggle in Mithamana bought from Nagaland from Kwakeithel area here even as three traders of the banned betel leaf surrendered to the outfit yesterday.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection, a spokesperson of the outfit said 28-year old Sapam Dinesh s/o Nabadwip of Khongjom Chingtham Mayai Leikai was rounded up from Kwakeithel area at around 6 am today while he was bringing Mithamana worth Rs 1600 bought from Nagaland in a Blue Hills passenger bus.
As this is his first offence, Dinesh would be handed over to his family members after giving proper advice and extracting a written assurance from him against committing the same offence in future, the spokesperson informed.
During the course of interrogation, Dinesh had also disclosed that police personnel on duty at Mantripukhri had taken Rs 200 from him to allow the smuggled banned betel leaves.
On the other hand, three Mithamana traders against whom the outfit had given five days' time to surrender following the disclosure of one Romesh alias Bobo of Uripok Huidrom Leikai who was pulled up along with Mithamana on October 28 last gave in to the outfit yesterday.
The spokesperson identified the three surrendered Mithamana traders as Md Kebo (31) of Kairang Mamang Leikai, Oinam Ajit alias Boinao of Khurai Sajor Leikai and Md Faizal (24) of Khurai Heikrumakhong Khomidok.
They have also confessed to their offences, the spokesperson informed.
