Zeliangrong bodies, village deplore killing

'Khunbu', 'Khullak', Peidai (Customary Court) and public of Chakanlong (Charo-ichagotlohg) village have deplored the violent incident that took place between two armed groups on Sunday afternoon at Phoibut in Noney district.
A statement conveyed that in the 'unfortunate' incident, a cadre belonging to Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) identified as David Gonmei of Namduanjang, Chakanlong Part-II was killed on the spot and shared the "grief and sorrow of the bereaved family members and also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace in heavenly abode" .
It is pertinent to note that Chakanlong villagers are peace loving citizens and "we don't encourage any form of violence and internecine killing amongst the Naga brothers and armed groups," the statement maintained and appealed to authorities concerned not to resort to such, violence and internecine killings in the village in particular and the district in general.
The village authorities also appealed to all the "armed outfits/organisa-tions" to maintain peace and tranquillity through dialogue to resolve their differences and bring amicable understanding rather than resorting to violent activities.
Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) Assam, Manipur, & Nagaland (AMN) and all its frontal organisations also strongly denounced the ambush and killing of David Gonmei by suspected cadres of NSCN In a release, ZB (AMN) expressed pain and anger at the intermittent factional killings in Zeliangrong inhabited areas, while the whole Naga people are yearning for peaceful settlement of the Naga political issue.
Peace time violence and killing is nothing short of crime against humanity' which all the people and nations consider as adversaries and antigens of a peaceful world, it added.
"Zeliangrong people's silence and low-profile nature of existence should not be taken as their weakness and ignorance by one and all," it cautioned, while urging all Naga political groups operating in Zeliangrong areas to shun violence in order to usher in an era of peace and tranquillity.
On the other hand, All Zeliangrong Students' Union-Assam, Manipur & Nagaland (AZSU-AMN) and Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) expressed anguish over the bloodshed in Zeliangrong areas despite appeals to shun violence on several occasions to the underground groups.
In a joint release, AZSU-AMN and ZSUM strongly condemned the killing of David Gaingamlung Gonmei (36), son of Meihondai Gonmei of Namduanjang village by NSCN-IM.
"We will never be able to wash hands off, smeared with the blood of our own brothers.
Both NSCN-IM and ZUF are entering into official political negotiation with the Government of India for fulfilling our protracted issue".
The Unions also appeal to UG groups to put an end to the culture of internecine within the family of Naga and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
