Imphal, June 22 2018:
Manipur University Staffs' Association (MUSA) has asked the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Adya Prasad Pandey to resign from his post on moral ground following the allegations against him by Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU).
Members of MUSA staged a rally inside the university campus today, demanding immediate replacement of the VC.
It may be mentioned that MUSU launched a strike from May 30, demanding the immediate resignation of the VC, a demand which has been backed by Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) as well so as to bring normalcy to the academic atmosphere of the university.
So far, six Deans of the university have resigned demanding a solution to the issue in light of the total shut down imposed by the students union.
Soram Jiyankumar, president of MUSA said that the shut down of the university has resulted in abrupt halt of normal classes and examinations and also barred the official duties of the staff and employees.
He demanded an amicable solution regarding the demand of the students, teachers and staff of the university by June 30 so as to save Manipur University and the future of its students.
If the authority concerned fails to replace the VC, then Professor Adya Prasad Pandey himself should resign on moral ground on July 1, Jivankumar demanded.
