4 days police remand of Police Driver

Imphal, June 22 2018:
A 40 year old Manipur police Constable/driver who was allegedly arrested in connection with illegal trespassing and taking away an INS AS rifle from the escort room of Imphal PS, has been remanded to police custody for four days (till June 25) by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today.
The arrested Manipur police constable/driver has been identified as Toijam Samarjeet (40) s/o Subhaschandra of Nambol Kori Leikai.
He was produced before the Court along with a prayer for police remand for further investigation of the case.
The Court heard the submission of the IO, through the APP of the State, and satisfied with the prayer remanded the accused driver to police custody till June 25.According to a reliable source, the incident occurred last night, at around 8.30, when the said police constable, who was recently transferred to Manipur Rifles from Imphal West district police Motor Technician (MT), sneaked inside the escort room of Imphal PS and made off with an INS AS rifle of one of the Constables, without informing the authority concerned.
Soon after it came to light that a weapon was missing, Imphal police launched a massive search and arrested Toijam Samarjeet from Old Lambulane area at around 10 pm.
