Progress of ongoing MR vaccination campaign

Imphal, April 06 2018: Measles is a major childhood killer disease and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) is responsible for irreversible birth defects.

Manipur State with technical support from its development partners (WHO, UNICEF, UNDP) launched the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign on March 26 to vaccinate all children between nine months to below 15 years with MR (Measles & Rubella) vaccine.

According to a press release issued by State BCC/IEC Consultant, National Health Mission, Manipur, the State of Manipur is committed to improve health and well being of the people by protecting children against vaccine preventable diseases.

With the launching of the campaign, the State has been rigorously working towards reaching out to all the children with the vaccine.

Till date, MR vaccination sessions have been conducted in schools.

The State intents to take the campaign to the communitythrough outreach sessions in the next week and at the health facilities.

Having successfully vaccinated around 3 lakhs children the State enters the second week of MR campaign.

Thetarget of the state is to reach out to approximately 9 lakh children.

Imphal East and West district has together vaccinated more than 1 lakh population.

The departments of Health and Education are partnering with schools to bring students and teachers to jointly participate in the MR Campaign.

In all the districts both the Government and the private schools are playing an important role in the success of the campaign by taking the necessary initiative to ensure that all children in the target age in the schools arevaccinated during the campaign.

UPHC staffs, Minuthong, Imphal East district, successfully vaccinated all the students of SL Kids Arena School, and achieved more than 100 % coverage.

Model Residential School in Nungba, Noney District.

Jonidas Kidsdom, Chakpikarong block, Chandel District.

Enlighten Kids Care Center, Chakpikarong block, Chandel district.

Grace Baby School, Machi block, Chandel District are some of the schools that successfully vaccinated all the students and achieved more than 100 % coverage.

The rest of the schools across the districts achieved more than 95% coverage, the release conveyed.

For the success of the campaign, the support from Administration, allied department; particularly Education and Social Welfare, stakeholders, IAP/IMA, Lions Club, Rotary International and civil society organizations and their contribution are most critical.

With their active participation and support, theState has been able to successfully achieve more than 60 % coverage in the first week of the launch itself.

The state aims to achieve the target of more than 95% coverageby April end, for which your continuous support is solicited.
