Awareness to promote science commences

Awareness programme on promotion of science education in tribal students of Senapati and Imphal East districts was started from today at Mt Everest Higher Secondary School in Taphou.
The programme was organised by Unique Trust, Kyamgei Mayai Leikai, under the sponsorship of the Communication Division, National Council for Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology.
The inaugural programme was attended by ex MLA Dr V Alexander Pao; Meithuanlungpou Gonmei, acting principal, Mt Everest Higher Secondary School and KS Stephen, chairman, Taphou Phyamai village as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Dr V Alexander Pao said at present science and technology has become an integral part of our society and it has become absolutely necessary for everyone including students to have scientific knowledge and organising such a programme will be beneficial to the students.
Such programmes will help in igniting the interest of the students in science and technology and will also help in spreading knowledge and awareness on the subject to their near and dear ones, he added.
Thangjam Kiranjit, president, Unique Trust said the programme was organised to instill interest to the students from remote parts of the state in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) and such programmes will help create scientific temperament amongst the students from such remote places.
He added that the awareness programme will be continued at Kyamgei.
Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, principal, Lilong Haoreibi College; Maibam Sushima, certified trainer under Food Industry Capacity and Skill Initiative and Bishorjit Singh, lecturer, St Joseph Higher Secondary School attended the event as resource persons.
A science exhibition, quiz and painting competition was also held.
