Kangpokpi, March 25 2021:
The proposed 48 hours total shutdown called by the Kuki Students' Organization and its branches and units in connection with the Government's decision to delete Any Kuki Tribes from recognized Scheduled Tribes list was suspended late this afternoon after talks with Government representatives.
The 48 hours shutdown was scheduled to begin this midnight.
Thanglenmang Simte, general secretary, KSO General Headquarters said that a meeting was held between representatives of KSO and the State Government representatives at the invitation of the State Government this afternoon at the office chamber of Tribal Affairs & Hills Minister in the Old Secretariat.
He continued that KSO representatives reiterated their standpoint that they will never accept any decision to delete Any Kuki Tribes from the Scheduled Tribes list of Manipur and urged the Government to uphold and respect the status of Any Kuki Tribes or any other tribes as recognized in the Constitution of India.
He stated that the Government representatives after acknowledging the genuineness of their demand appealed to put on hold the proposed stir until the next Cabinet meeting which will be held within a short period of time.
"On the part of the KSO, we considered the appeal of the Government representatives as we found its seriousness to resolve the issue favourably and finally decided to suspend the proposed 48 hours total shutdown", Thanglenmang Simte.
The student body said that it would resort to any kind of agitation if the Government fails to consider its demand and decide to delete Any Kuki Tribes from the Scheduled Tribes list of the State.
