Condemning the grenade attack carried out at the home compound of Phayeng Gram Panchayat Pradhan in Phayeng Awang Leikai, the local populace of Phayeng took out a protest rally around Phayeng area today.
The rally was taken out from Phayeng Awang Leikai Community Hall which was participated by hundreds of people.
The procession ended where it started followed by a public meeting where many resolutions were also passed.
It may be mentioned that two miscreants on a bike passed Gojendro's house and lobbed a hand grenade at around 5.30 pm yesterday.
The explosion not only severely injured Gojendro's mother, Angom (O) Thanil (68) on her stomach, leg and face but also damaged her ear drums.
She was rushed to RIMS.
Gojendro had earlier reportedly received an SMS from the cadre of a proscribed outfit, named Chingsanglakpa pertaining to an extortion.
On the other hand, Imphal West-I Block Panchayat Parishad has also strongly condemned the grenade attack at Gojendro's house which left his mother severely injured.
The president of the parishad, Y Muhindro said in a press meet held at Phayeng that there are 24 pradhans under the block and the attack at Gojendro's house was not the first time.
Other attacks have been carried out against other pradhans, he added.
He further asserted that the pradhans are in a state of insecurity and are unable to carry out development works due to the fear of such attacks and threats.
Adding more to the condemnation, the Parishad secretary N Boby told the media persons that the State Government does not provide security to pradhans neither has it released funds.
While the PRI members were in fear and agony, Pradhan Munindro and Mangi also received similar threatening messages from the same cadre.
The PRI members only convert the funds sanctioned by the State Government into developmental works for the people.
Moreover, giving money to the proscribed groups is an offence, he continued .
