With crippling bandh continuing, rice sold at DC office complex

Tamenglong, April 30 2013:
The total bandh being imposed along NH- 2 and NH-37 by All Zeliangrong Students Union (AZSU), Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) and Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) over the Alice Kamei case has severely affected the people of Tamenglong.
In view of the acute shortage of rice at the district HQs, rice was sold at Deputy Commissioner Office complex Tamenglong today.
145 quintals of rice was brought by one shop keeper from Silchar (Assam) last night to make it available to the people.
To avoid any eventuality/ untoward incident, the district administration along with Traders Association Tamenglong, police and Consumer Club Manipur Tamenglong branch assisted the shop keeper, Haridan Gupta in selling the rice.
The rice (super fine) was sold at Rs.23 per kg to all Ration Card holders.
Each ration card holder was given 10 kg.
It may be mentioned here that All Zeliangrong Students Union (AZSU), Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) and Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) have imposed an indefinite total bandh along NH-2 and NH- 37 since 21 April demanding unconditional release of Alice Kamei, a school going girl, who is said to be the in the custody of RPF/PLA.
Since then, all the rice godowns and shops selling rice in the district headquarters have ran out their stock.
Meanwhile, according to a reliable source, six trucks loaded with essential commodities which have come from Silchar along with Haridan Gupta were reportedly stopped and hijacked by some unidentified persons.
Two drivers were also reportedly beaten up.
