Imphal, March 23 2015:
Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) on Sunday claimed that the outfit killed two NSCN-IM cadres and seriously injured another two in a fierce gun battle at Guiteng in Khoupum valley of Tamenglong district on March 19 .
A statement of L Longmei, secretary, Information & publicity, ZUF added that arm confrontation occurred at Guiteng between the outfit and NSCN (IM) was the backlash against the latter for its dastardly incursion into the ZUF operational area.
The front said that the NSCN (IM) cadres intruded upon the area grossly violating the peaceful environment, Naga customary and international human rights norms.
It said ZUF witnessed the NSCN (IM) cadres dictating and harassing the innocent villagers who were asked to bring their domestic livestock, rice and other essential commodities to them without payment.
The villagers were turned to porters by the NSCN (IM) cadres as they were asked to carry items to different places.
Angered, ZUF carried out a swift operation against the rival cadres, it said, adding, two of its cadres were shot dead on spot and another two were seriously wounded.
ZUF said NSCN (IM) usually hide their deceased cadres by burying them in the jungle without informing the family and public simply to conserve their wrong deeds in the eyes of general public.
This practice is just not a violation of Naga customary laws but also contravenes United Nations human rights norms.
Hence the front appeals to the Zeliangrong Frontal organizations, civil societies, indigenous faiths and churches to look into the matter, it said, warning all NSCN (IM) cadres from Zeliangrong community to learn lesson that they were sent to die in the hands of fellow brethren merely to fulfill the undying interest of some vested officers of their own outfit.
