The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) expressed its deep shock over the demise of the former Chief Minister W Nipamacha, who breathed his last yesterday.
In a statement issued by its General Secretary K Poushinglung, the Union recalled Nipamacha as a man of integrity, straightforwardness and honest political leader of Manipur.
It was during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Manipur that "Gaan Ngai", the greatest festival of Zeliangrong, was declared as a general holiday in the state in the year 1998 .
His respect and concern towards religious minorities will be remembered by all and particularly the Zeliangrong community.
His death has caused a great loss for the state which will be hard to fill the vacuum.
