Imphal, October 01 2023:
Noting that some private schools are imposing different terms and conditions for teachers and expelling them amidst the crisis situation in the state, All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation (AMSGO) has appealed to private school authorities not to give undue burden to the students and teachers.
In a release, AMSGO general secretary Sumati Sougrakpam stated that the removal of teachers by school authorities with total disrespect to the profession, violating the rights of the teachers and not allowing students to appear in examination or withholding their results due to non-payment of fee should be stopped immediately in view of the present conflict.
She urged BSEM and CoHSEM to reduce the registration and form fill up fees considering the plight of the parents and students due to the restive situation.
Pointing out that there were cases of forcefulremoval of senior teachers from private schools by the school authorities for taking up tuition and running private hostels, she said that school authorities have been imposing several rules and regulations for the teachers and making them to sigh agreements.
When private school teachers who have low earning take private tuitions and open hostels or any other business after the school hours, the school authorities restrict them and even remove the teachers unreasonably, she added.
As salaries of senior teachers are comparatively high, attempts are made by school authorities to remove the senior teachers and replace them by fresh one as the latter are generally paid lower, she denounced, while adding that stringent rules are being imposed on private school teachers.
Apart from paying salary which is not in commensurate with the task they are assigned, there is no service security for teachers working in private schools.
So, the school authorities should respect rights of the teachers and acknowledge contributions made by the teachers in shaping the future pillars of the society, she added.
