The Nupi Samaj has made various contributions to the State since its establishment in the early part of 1972.They have also been fighting against crimes inflicted upon women.
Though Manipur follows the patriarchal system, the role played by women of the State is no less important.
The women of the State have been contributing to the growth of society since the early ages.
However, with the advent of 21st century, the agelong respect and honour for women held by men seem to have eroded, she said.
The growing rate of crimes against women indicates the deteriorating position of women in the present day Manipuri society.
Alluding to the two stages of women's war and their fight aginst AFSPA Professor W Nabakumar, during his speech said the society must not forget the contributions made by women at large.
According to historians, women suffered more than men in the early stages of civilization.
The women of the State, likewise, have suffered a great deal in their fight to wipe out drugs and other intoxicants from the State, Lukram Mamata stated.
The presidium members also asserted the importance of meira paibis and the need for a social change during their speech today.
