Behiang PHC to run 24x7

State Health Services Director Okram Ibomcha, who is also the Mission Director of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Manipur has announced that Primary Health Centre (PHC) Behiang, would run 24x7 soon to provide optimum health care services not only to the people of the border village but also to the citizens of neighbouring Myanmar.
A high level team led by Singhat MLA Ginsuanhau Zou and Health Services Director Okram Ibomcha visited the PHCs of interior villages of Behiang, Singhat and Zezaw under Singhat Sub-Division in Churachandpur district to study the feasibilities of upgrading these medical facilities to centres which run 24x7 on October 24 .
Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Lunminthang Haokip, Health Services Additional Director Samson Sheiro, Power Department Executive Engineer T Hatzaw, Chief Medical Officer, Churachandpur Thangchinkhup Guite, State Programme Manager NRHM Rajiv Irengbam, UNICEF Consultant Arun Meitram and several high ranking officials were also part of the team, which visited these villages located along Indo-Myanmar border.
During the visit, O Ibomcha said that PHC Behiang would start functioning 24/7 soon and all the required infrastructure, equipment and manpower for the said purpose would be provided to the PHC.
It is said that people from Myanmar also come to the PHC for medical treatment.
MLA Ginsuanhau Zou said that in consultation with Churachandpur DC, he would provide two tube wells and solar power back-up to Behiang PHC to make it functional 24/7 .
He added that he would discuss with the officials of DRDA, Power Department, PHED and BRO to improve power and drinking water supplies and road condition.
Giving his assurance to depute three more doctors at the PHC soon, Dr O Ibomcha said that Ultrasound machine, generator, water storage tank and medicines would also be provided soon.
The Director added that an initiative to organise surgery camps in the interior areas of hill districts to attend surgery and gynae cases would be taken up soon.
Responding to a query, Dr O Ibomcha said the State Health Services or State Health Mission Manipur alone cannot be the health indicator of the State.
It requires collective co-ordination among PHED, PWD, Power Department and people.
Deputy Commissioner Lunminthang Haokip expressed his desire to discuss with village authorities and PHC staff regarding improvement of health care services in the border village.
During the visit, a free medical camp was conducted in which medicines were also distributed free of cost.
Earlier, for the improvement of immunization services of children, an ILR machine was installed at Behiang PHC.
It is said that the PHC could not provide efficient health care service to people due to absence of MBBS doctors earlier, and one Ayush doctor used to manage the PHC.
However, two MBBS doctors were deputed to the PHC recently.
All the medical care needs of these areas came to the notice of State Health Services after a UNICEF team conducted a gap analysis at the area.
